The Institute’s mission is to carry out public service which entails various administrative and expert tasks in the field of protection of immovable cultural heritage, as well as associated movable and intangible heritage.  Heritage contributes significantly to cultural diversity of Slovenia and is also an unalienable part of the European and world heritage. This mission is based not merely on numerous procedures in connection with active conservation of heritage and prevention of harmful impacts to it. The Institute also implements many measures aimed at integration of heritage into modern life, presentation of heritage to the public and raising awareness of its values. One of its foremost goals is accessibility of heritage for the enjoyment of the present and future generations.

Therefore, apart from tasks specified in legislature, the Institute spends a lot of its energy promoting cultural heritage as such promotion plays an important role in its protection and conservation.
Within the scope of its jurisdiction, the Institute consists of sever regional units among which Regional Unit Kranj covers 21 municipalities together with Udin boršt of course. We should not fail to mention that in 1985 the Commemorative Park Udin boršt was protected as a cultural and historical monument under the ordinance which still applies today.
